CURRENT ISSUES OF RUSSIAN POLITICAL HISTORY IN THE CONTEXT OF TEACHING THE “FOUNDATIONS OF RUSSIAN STATEHOOD” COURSE: HISTORICAL AND SOCIOLOGICAL ASPECT

Abstract. The article examines the attitude of the student community towards the introduction of the “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood” course into the higher education curriculum since 2023. Based on a conducted sociological survey, the authors analyze students’ opinions regarding the relevance of the new course, its content, and teaching methods. The paper provides a characterization of the most interesting and in-demand sections of the discipline from the perspective of first-year students.
The paper pays special attention to the issue of personifying the student audience's perceptions of patriotism – specifically, which prominent historical and contemporary figures are considered patriots of their country in the view of modern students. The findings may also be useful for assessing the feasibility and prospects of potential adjustments to the content and thematic focus of this course, as well as to the methodological aspects of its teaching, while maintaining the recommended overall structure.
Keywords: Political history, Russian history, “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood”, historical and sociological survey, patriotism.

THE ROLE OF SOVIET RUSSIA IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NATIONAL LIBERATION MOVEMENT IN THE COUNTRIES OF THE EAST, 1917 – EARLY 1920S

Abstract. The subject of the article is the foreign policy of the Soviet state towards the countries of the East in the first years after the October Socialist Revolution. The research aims to determine the role of the Soviet factor in the activities of the national liberation movement in a number of Eastern states that bordered Soviet Russia, and later the USSR. Based on official diplomatic documents and memoirs, the author characterizes the approaches of Soviet foreign policy to supporting the national liberation movement in the Muslim countries of the East (Persia and the Ottoman Empire (Turkey)), as well as in the largest state in East Asia – China. A characteristic feature of Soviet support for the national liberation movement was its close connection with the pursuit of the geopolitical interests of Soviet Russia, as well as the ideology of communizing the East.
However, the execution of Soviet Russia’s foreign policy agenda was hindered by a multitude of both objective and subjective challenges. The leaders of the national liberation movement in the Eastern countries were, at a certain stage, interested in Soviet assistance but were not ready for the communization of their states. Subsequently, this led to a cooling of relations between all the Eastern countries under consideration and the Soviet state. The relevance of the article is determined by the need to consider past experience when building relations with the political elites of neighboring states. National leaders are generally guided by the interests of their people; therefore, their reliance on the support of another state is often short-term and opportunistic in nature. The article relies on the historical-systemic method, aimed at identifying cause-and-effect relationships and developmental features of the object under study. The conclusions and main results of the research can be used in teaching national and world history in educational institutions, as well as for organizing public lectures on the history of Russian foreign policy.

ARTILLERY SUPPORT OF THE WHITE ARMIES AND THE SPECIFICS OF THEIR STRATEGIC OPERATIONS DURING THE RUSSIAN CIVIL WAR IN 1919–1920

Abstract: The course of military operations in any war largely depends on the nature and volume of supply of the opposing armies with weapons, equipment, and ammunition. The timeliness of delivering these supplies to the front is also of critical importance. These conditions were equally relevant during the Russian Civil War of 1917 – 1922. For the White Armies fighting against the Bolshevik Soviet government, significant volumes of military supplies were provided by the Entente countries. Russia had been a member of the Entente, and the governments of the White Movement proclaimed themselves the successors of the former Russian Empire and the Russian Republic of 1917. The victories and defeats of the White Armies at the front were directly linked to the supplies of weapons and ammunition they received. It proved impossible to establish large-scale domestic military production within the territories controlled by the White Movement in Russia. The supply of artillery and artillery ammunition was of particular importance. Documents pertaining to this are contained in the archival fund of the Department of Foreign Supply of the White Armies in Paris, headed in 1919 by General of Infantry D. G. Shcherbachev. This article provides a general analysis of the interdependence between artillery supply factors and the course of strategic military operations conducted by the White Armies in 1919.

CHARACTER IDIOLECT IN THE VIDEO GAME WARHAMMER 40,000: ROGUE TRADER IN THE CONTEXT OF LOCALIZATION

Abstract. The article interprets an idiolect as the structural and linguistic features of a fictional character’s speech that help reveal their personality, thereby making the “secondary world” to which the character belongs more immersive. This factor is of considerable importance for creating high-quality narrative content in RPG video games. The primary focus of the study is the idiolectual features of two characters from the video game Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, whose dialogue lines with the protagonist take the form of allusive poetry containing references to the works of William Shakespeare and his contemporaries, and to alliterative Norse sagas, respectively. A proper recreation of idiolects like theirs is a crucial aspect of translating videogame dialogue from Russian into English. The relevance of the study is determined by the growing interest in video games as a multimodal form of contemporary art, the significance of the Warhammer 40,000 universe for popular culture, and the need for more detailed research on video game localization specifically for this language pair. The methodology involves creating a mini-corpus using screenshots, a dialogue tracker, and in-game texts in .json format, comparing poetic lines in Russian and English, and conducting an informal survey of native English speakers to assess how well they recognize cultural allusions. The study resulted in identifying viable localization techniques for allusive poetic texts at the phonetic, syntactic, and lexical levels. The findings can be applied in teaching translation and localization, as well as in further research on character idiolects in video games.

Keywords: localization, videogame, idiolect, speech characterization, poetry translation, allusion.

ANTONYMIC PHRASEOLOGICAL SYNTACTIC CONSTRUCTIONS ‘N OF A HEALTHY PERSON’ – ‘N OF THE BRAIN’ IN MODERN SPEECH

Abstract. The subject of the study is the phraseological syntactic constructions ‘N of the brain’ and ‘N of a healthy person’, which are widely used in contemporary media discourse. A discursive analysis of these constructions, which stand in axiological-antonymic relations, allows for the description of markers within the modern evaluative field. The study outlines the prototypical images associated with these phraseological patterns, analyzes the range of lexemes that fill the variable slot (N) in these constructions, and identifies their semantic and evaluative nuances. The N-slot can be filled by either a lexeme that is originally evaluation-neutral or, conversely, a nomination that carries a clear axiological charge in the speaker’s discourse or in contemporary speech in general. When the object of evaluation, already bearing a negative charge, is inserted into the phraseological construction ‘N of the brain’, the pattern acts as an axiological intensifier, amplifying the negative assessment and pointing to a potential cause of the described phenomenon. The phenomenon itself might be evaluated positively in general, but not in this specific manifestation, about which it is stated that it is an ‘N of the brain’.
The range of N-lexemes is very broad; it can even include non-characterizing words, including proper names, which metonymically represent a way of thinking or actions. The phraseological unit ‘N of a healthy person’ explicitly expresses a positive evaluation. However, the axiological potential of this pattern is not exhausted by this: it implicitly conveys a negative assessment, as ‘N of a healthy person’ is contrasted with a mere N, thereby singling out the subject of speech from a number of homogeneous objects based on an axiological feature. When the object of evaluation is generally perceived negatively, its inclusion in this phraseological pattern can be considered analogous to a “meta-linguistic marker of pseudo-value” in a good sense (T.B. Radbil), as it acknowledges the potential for positive qualities within a negatively evaluated phenomenon. The presence of this internal axiological opposition distinguishes this phraseological pattern from the unipolar, exclusively negative expression ‘N of the brain’.
Keywords: phraseology, axiology, phraseological pattern, N of the brain, N of a healthy person, media discourse.

ON THE DELIMITATION OF THE CONCEPTS OF SPORTS AND FITNESS DISCOURSE

Abstract. The article provides an overview of the development of discourse studies in linguistics, focusing primarily on sports discourse. The topicality of the study is explained by the global nature of the sports sphere, as well as the role that sports generally play in human life. In modern linguistics, sports discourse often becomes a subject for research, which inevitably leads to the expansion and certain ambiguity of the very notion. Thus, this article attempts to justify the need to consider the fitness industry discourse as a separate discourse, related to, but not included in, the sports discourse. This view is promoted by the fact that the nature of communication between different participants in the framework of the fitness industry differs from sports communication, as well as by the fact that the sports club and fitness center industry is inextricably linked to the advertising sphere, and not to the mass media, which is largely characteristic of sports discourse.

GILYAROV-PLATONOV IN THE POETRY BY ROMAN SLAVATSKY

Abstract. The article examines the poetic responses of the Kolomna writer Roman Slavatsky (real name – Roman Vadimovich Gatsko; 1957–2021) to Nikita Gilyarov-Platonov’s memoirs ‘From the Experience of a Lifetime’ (1886). The analysis focuses on two sonnets from different years, which share the same title ‘Nikita the Martyr’, poems from the cycle ‘Cherkizovo Parnassus’, and other works by the poet. In Slavatsky’s sonnets, biographical facts related to the thinker are revealed through specific Kolomna urban and rural toponyms and architectural structures (the Church of Nikita the Martyr, the Kolomna Kremlin, the village of Cherkizovo, and others). The author notes the poet’s precision and keen observation of details, as well as the emotional depth of his lyrical imagery. The poems are considered in relation to Slavatsky’s other works (lyric poetry, fiction, and historical and local history writings) and within the context of the concept of the “Kolomna text” (V. A. Viktorovich), which Slavatsky himself, as a writer and local historian, extensively employed.
Keywords: Gilyarov-Platonov; Roman Slavatsky; Kolomna; “Kolomna text”; sonnet; memoirs.

ANALYSIS IN ASSESSING THE QUALITY OF FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT OF MUNICIPAL INSTITUTIONS

Abstract. The article focuses on the increasing role of analysis in improving the quality of financial management in municipal institutions and substantiates the feasibility of extending the experience of its assessment to budgetary (autonomous) institutions. Within the budgetary sector of the economy, officials making managerial decisions primarily focus on strict compliance with existing legislation while ensuring the efficient use of resources. The relevance of this study stems from the fact that implementing these principles requires reliable real-time information, as managers must be fully aware of their responsibility to society, the founder, and the staff. Consequently, the role of analysis in managing municipal institutions is objectively increasing to ensure a clear understanding of potential problems and the search for solutions. A distinctive feature of this analysis lies in the application of specific models for its implementation, the consistent integration of digital platforms into this process, and the enhancement of financial management quality. At the same time, the role of specialists’ qualifications in interpreting the obtained analytical results is increasing, which requires the systematization of regulatory legal acts and practical experience in publications on this issue.
The article aims to substantiate the role of analysis in improving the quality of financial management of municipal institutions to enhance the efficiency of local budget fund utilization. The research subject is the assessment of the relationship between analysis and the quality of financial management in municipal institutions. The methodological tools used for the study include data from the bus.gov.ru website and traditional analysis methods such as comparison, grouping, abstraction, and aggregation. As a result of the conducted research, the feasibility of integrating analysis into a comprehensive model for assessing the quality of financial management in municipal budgetary (autonomous) institutions was substantiated.

INNOVATIVE MANAGEMENT MODELS FOR ORGANIZING HIGHER AND SECONDARY VOCATIONAL EDUCATION SERVICES

Abstract. The relevance of the study is determined by the need to change the conceptual approaches to management in order to ensure high educational outcomes. The subject of the research is management models used in Russian educational institutions of higher and secondary vocational education. The article aims to develop an original model of adaptive management for an educational organization based on the synthesis of management approaches in the context of the transition from traditional, planned, and hierarchical structures to more flexible, effective, and adaptive systems. The research methodology is based on methods for assessing managerial effectiveness, including comprehensive model-based methodologies at the national level, detailed regional systems, and economic models based on the results of demonstration exams. Hybrid management models at universities, which combine classical vertical structures with Agile approaches, matrix structures, and network collaboration, are examined separately. Using university case studies, the authors show how the introduction of Agile methodologies, motivational systems, and individual educational trajectories enhances operational efficiency, engagement, and management quality. The article analyzes the specifics of management in the secondary vocational education, where a balance is struck between standardization (through a demonstration exam) and digitalization (within the framework of the “Professionalitet” and “Digital Economy” projects), as well as the role of partnerships with employers. To develop strategic recommendations, a comparative analysis of international education management experience in England, Germany, and France was conducted, identifying potential models for adaptation to Russian conditions. The final section outlines the key trends of the future. It is emphasized that the successful implementation of innovations does not only not only require technological investments, but also a deep cultural transformation of the management environment.
