The raid of Russian mission in Qajar Iran as a part of the great game

Abstract. The development of Russo-Persian relations in the 19th century was overshadowed by the geopolitical struggle in Central Asia. The desire to control this region of the world was the root of the antagonism between the British and Russian Empires. Assassination of Alexander Sergeyevich Griboyedov, then Russian envoy to Persia, became an incarnation of the clash of interests of Russia, Persia and Britain. The analysis of a range of source documents allows to identify the factors which contributed to the looting of the Russian diplomatic mission. The assassination of Alexander Griboyedov is viewed in the context of the situation, stipulated by the Treaty of Turkmenchay and consequent international events and internal political struggle in Qajar Iran.

Contribution of Public and Social Institutions to the Propagation of Primary Education in the Second Half of 19th Century (a Case of United Kingdom and Russia)

Abstract. The article explores the models of interaction between the state and society in the field of public education. The author considers the efficiency of state subsidies and the role of school councils in Great Britain. Meanwhile in Russia the funding of schools was mostly done through local government bodies, whereas the Ministry of Education had the function of oversight and control. Comparison of two countries allows to draw a conclusion about high efficiency of the British model.

Origins of the Conflict in the North Caucasus in Late 1980s-Mid-1990s: Dynamics and Resolution

Abstract. The focuses on the state of affairs in Soviet Union and subsequently Russian Federation in late 1980s – mid-1990s. This period in the history of Russia was overshadowed by the freedom parade of former Soviet republics and the conflict of laws which is some cases evolved into a real armed conflicts of varied intensity. It is Northern Caucasus where these tensions developed into a full-scale war. Looking at the so-called First Chechen War, the author analyses the way localized arm conflicts evolved on the territory of the former Soviet Union. We come to the conclusions that the conflicts in North Caucuses in the period mentioned, demonstrated elements typical of hybrid warfare.

Abstract. The article gives an overview of the reasons to choose Kolomna as the home for Russia’s first state shipyard. The author focuses on the contribution of Kolomna carpenters, blacksmiths, sail masters and rope makes to the operation of the shipyard.

Self-Study in a Digital Economy

Abstract. The article explores the questions of implementation of the strategy for the development of the information society in Russian Federation. Special attention is paid to formation of the modern system of education. Introduction of ICT in the process of education allows to capitalize on the opportunities of distance and e-learning, thus, tailoring it to the learners’ specific needs. Tailoring on the education process via e-learning technologies and the emphasis on study autonomy contribute to the development of the skills required for the future.

Abstract. Nowadays the famous quote that he, who possesses the information, owns the world, often attributed to Nathan Mayer Rothschild becomes especially relevant. Internet has become the channel for the transmission of information, and the internet communication has gained great importance. The rise of online communication resulted in the emergence of a specific Internet discourse, which encompassed all the modes and genres of Internet communication. Pragmatics of Russian Borrowings in the English Translation of Sergei Dovlatov’s novel The Suitcase

Abstract. Political, economic and cultural globalization in the 20th and 21st centuries has made an impacton all cultures. The study of borrowings used in fiction allows us to disclose the mechanisms and peculiarities of how the other culture is perceived. Thus, the purpose of this article was to study the pragmatics of Russian borrowings in modern fiction in English (based on a translation of Sergei Dovlatov’s novel).
