New Outlooks on Russian Revolution of 1917: A Case of Mogilev and Mogilev Province

Abstract. The changes that had been taking place in Mogiliev and its province in conjunction with Russian Revolution of 1917 can be characterized as both rapid and dramatic. Contrary to the Soviet and even current historical discourse the popularity of Bolshevik party in Mogilev was actually much lower. Based on a wide range of historical sources, the article provides a conclusive evidence of the fact that the political sympathies of the local community were mostly with Socialists-Revolutionaries.

On Victorian Reformatories

Abstract. The rapid growth of juvenile crime in England in the 1800s-1850s together with the concern about the nation’s future encouraged English charities to set up reformatory schools for juvenile delinquents. Successive acts of Parliament, passed in the second half of the 19th century allowed to disseminate this experience nationwide, which resulted in the significant drop of crime rates by the end of Vicotrian Era.

Religious Dissident Movement in USSR

Abstract. In the 1950s-1970s religious group membership became a form of political protest. Orthodox Christians, True and Free Seventh-day Adventists, Pentecostals and Evangelical Christian Baptists were among the most active religious groups of the time. All of these groups campaigned for the rights of believers, namely against religious prosecution as well as for the right of spiritual practices, right for proliferation of religious ideas and theological studies. The period in question is featured by both criticism of the Soviet regime and dissent with the church as such.

Teaching History of Moscow Region: On Regional Perspective and Local History Textbook

Abstract. The article in question gives the analysis of the Regional Standard for History and Culture Studies as the foundation for teaching the History of Moscow region. Since the philosophy behind this standard is to encourage the intellectual development of the student, the suggested course design path is a set of cases. The article give an overview of textbooks that are currently available on the market and their efficiency.

University Brand Image: External Perspective

Abstract. In a modern economy any enterprise wants to have an accurate assessment of its activities. The publicity associated with the goods or services it provides can also be one of these factors. A university is not an exception. Thus, it is good to know where the strengths and weaknesses of the university lie. It means that all activities of the university must be aimed creating a positive image of the university as a place for innovation. This effort can be measured using a special method.

Transition to Digital Economy: Role of Organizational Component of A University’s Intellectual Capital

Abstract. In 2018 the transition to digital economy was listed among the long-tem strategic aims of Russian economy. This aim calls for a balanced and consistent approach to intellectual capital management in all types of institutions. The challenges which the companies and universities face, as well as the conditions under which they have to act force them to make operational decisions which affect not only the administrative and academic staff, but also other components of intellectual capital. Thus, the purpose of the article is to highlight the importance of effective management of both organizational and client components of intellectual capital for a university. Particular attention is paid to the organizational component which allows the university to realize the full potential of its intellectual capital.

Culture-Dependent Idioms: A Case of Idioms with A Zoonym Component

Abstract. Phraseological units are the figurative persecution of the world. They reflect the beliefs, ethos and culture of the past. Sometimes they act as substitutes which fill the nomination gap in the language, or even are the only way to name a certain concept or phenomenon. Idioms with a zoonym component are a large subclass of phraseology and are particularly interesting because they can be directly traced to some kind of imagery and reflect the culture behind it.
